Start with the evidence
Count the documents, separate unreadable files from readable ones and identify known duplicates for review. Choose a manageable batch with a clear completion condition.
Work through the example
A batch of 20 documents contains 15 readable sources, three needing recapture and two possible duplicates. Those groups need different actions; treating all 20 as ready would hide the exceptions.
Make the next step clear
Record what was completed and carry unresolved items forward with owners. A smaller verified batch is more useful than a larger collection whose sources and status are uncertain.
Keep the source context
A readable source and a clear label serve different purposes. Keep the original document intact while adding searchable context around it. Avoid treating filenames, OCR output or a cropped image as more authoritative than the actual source.
